Mark White

Born in the summer of 1979 in Athens, Alabama, Mark White’s beginnings weren’t idea, but that was remedied by two grandparents who were willing to raise him as their own. Being a part of a preacher’s home meant living in various places around the state of Alabama and traveling across the country and the world. Those experiences had a profound affect on Mark and his desire to connect with people. After opening a tortilla/tortilla chip factory and restaurant in 2005, Mark was immersed in business promotion and network marketing. Great marketing led to his Blanco’s Chips being found in approximately 160 grocery-type stores and specialty shops in four states, including Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi. Mark found a way to get his product into the hands of recognizable figures such as former President George W. Bush, football Coach Gene Stallings, Governor Bob Riley, Earl Thomas Conley, Author Kathryn Tucker Windom, Singer/Songwriter Merle Haggard, and many others. The Blanco’s Chips were featured in Southern Living Magazine in 2008 and were featured in many publications and television and radio programs throughout its existence. Also in 2008, Mark was selected as Businessperson of the Year by the Athens-Limestone (Alabama) County Chamber of Commerce and were named “The Best Chips in Alabama” by the Alabama Senate. Blanco’s Chips were part of the Buy Alabama’s Best program and were the official Chips of The University of North Alabama Athletics. In 2010, the business closed its doors. At 30 years old, Mark was presented with a choice, stop or move forward. He chose to move forward. It took some time to find direction and purpose, but through his previous experiences as a police officer, factory worker, sales representative, tourism director, and business owner, a writer/blogger, and an opportunity to join Applebee’s Tailgate Talk as a co-host, Mark found a way to merge his passion for people into his own radio show called The Mark White Show. Since its first air date of November 3, 2017, The Mark White Show has grown in every aspect. Mark has continued to utilize his networking and marketing ability to move an effort much bigger than chips, by recognizing those who are making a difference and encouraging others to do the same. The show also uses its reach to share efforts for others who are needing assistance. True to his previous methods, Mark has received endorsements from Comedian Jeff Foxworthy, Musician Ricky Skaggs, Coach Gene Stallings, Betty Lynn of The Andy Griffith Show, and many others. The show has found a home at several radio stations across the state of Alabama. Currently, the show can be heard on WVNN in Athens, WGOL in Russellville, and WRMG in Red Bay. With streaming and podcasting, The Mark White Show has listeners across the world. In April, 11 years after receiving Business Person of the Year from the same organization, Mark also received Citizen of the Year from the Athens-Limestone Chamber of Commerce. It was at that moment that Mark realized he had “come back.” With a focus on helping people and making a difference in the lives of others, Mark now has a “product” with an unlimited shelf life. The message is that doors open by doing. Have ideas, but be ready to adapt and overcome.

Christine Laikind

Hey, My name is Christine Laikind. It’s personal for me – why? I was born deaf. I am an entrepreneur. I’m on a mission to talk about web accessibility. To the Web Design community. To small businesses. To nonprofit organizations. To e-commerce businesses. You may or may not have heard about web accessibility. Or Inclusive design. But anyone that has a website, web accessibility is becoming more important than ever. Why? Because, the Web and Internet as a whole is an increasingly important resource in many aspects of our life which includes: education, employment, government, e-commerce, health care, recreation, and so much more. An accessible web will help people with “different abilities” (my term), the aging population (think baby boomers and upcoming generation X) and even those who are “temporarily disabled” use the website – the way it is intended. Let’s talk and discuss on how we can make our digital world so much better for everyone.

Charles Johnston

Charles Johnston is a self-proclaimed digital ninja and owner of HeartWired Digital Solutions who works with small to medium sized businesses and nonprofits to and increase sales and donations worldwide. He believes that through proper web design, social branding, and marketing strategy all organizations can change their communities locally and globally.

Charles has worked with solopreneurs, entrepreneurs, startups, nonprofits and businesses of all sizes spanning the globe in the services they provide. Whether in creating a brand-new web designs, redesigns or providing social media or web content for clients all have one common thread, they each have a story that HeartWired helps to tell.

Ever since his first mission trip, Charles has chosen to use his gifts and talents to serve others. His passion for technology, compassion for others, and desire to make a difference. Rather than just offering web design services, HeartWired provides purpose driven digital solutions.

Steve Schwartz

Steve Schwartz is the owner of AVT Marketing in Charlotte, NC and has been developing WordPress Websites for over 10 years. After experiencing a hacked site in 2012 he has become obsessed with website security and with educating others on “end to end” online security.

Steve is a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and is currently pursuing the Offensive Security Certified Professional cert (OSCP) through Kali Linux.

Steve’s teaching style has always been to try to take complex technical jargon and bring it down to a level where end users can understand it. He differentiates himself as an educator by not just telling students to do (or not do) something, but rather explain the importance of “Why” – and through story telling to get the point across and make it stick.

Mary Baum

Mary Baum is the founder and principal of RacquetPress, a digital consultant to the tennis industry. … Trained as a print designer before the web was born, Mary built her first site (wrong) in 1999 and started to learn real CSS and HTML in 2007 — at the tender age of 47.

Today she’s a big fan of design in the browser (after a few thumbnail sketches!) and all the modern CSS the browsers will support. She’s also started hanging out in the core developer chats and helping write the blog posts (and it’s giving her a swelled head.)

Also high on her list: rare steaks, homemade hot fudge sauce, high backhand volleys and high-contrast serif type; the Genesis Framework, Boeing fighter jets and repeating patterns in Illustrator; and finally, Atomic Blocks for Gutenberg and the ad court.

Teresa Rosche Ott

Teresa is an experienced website consultant who’s built websites since the ’90s. She’s worked with WordPress since 2010.

Her company, A Fearless Venture, designs, builds, optimizes and maintains WordPress websites for entrepreneurs, bloggers and other tiny businesses.

In the spring of 2018, Teresa and her husband and business partner Brian sold their Atlanta home and most of what they owned to become digital nomads. They currently live, work and travel the U.S. in a Class A motorhome.

Amy Hall

It’s not a surprise that Amy Hall is referred to as the MacGyver of MailChimp. For the last ten years, Amy has been taking content management out of the hands of business owners who are already juggling too many tasks. Not only is she a certified MailChimp Partner & Expert, but she builds WordPress websites, manages content marketing for small businesses, and provides hands-on Mailchimp training.

When it comes to speaking, Amy is a natural. After all, she started the Carlsbad WordPress Meetup. Amy is in her element when showing WordPress users how to optimize their forms, perfect their lead generation, and make their WordPress sites perform.

When she’s not training clients on how to best create their business funnel, she spends time with her husband, a minister in Carlsbad, takes her grandkids to museums, painting classes, and enjoying nature.

Stacy M. Clements

Stacy Clements is the owner of Milepost 42, a technology partner for small business owners who want to work on their business, not the “techie stuff” needed to support it.

Before starting her business, Stacy spent 23 years in the United States Air Force, working in communications, cyber operations, and project management. Dubbed “a fixer, a problem solver, and a pitbull”, she now focuses on fixing WordPress sites, solving technical problems for small business owners, and relentlessly promoting cybersecurity practices.
